The following links provide access to 32-second AVI displacment animations from the listed earthquakes. The displacements were computed from the acceleration files and are relative to subbasement motion. The waveforms were bandpass filtered for frequencies between 0.45 and 5.0 Hz, and begin before the first shear-wave arrival, and in many cases, also before the first P wave. Each filled circle represents a sensor that contributed a measurement to a particular animation. Note that torsional motions (rotations in the horizontal plane) give the appearance of changing the lengths between opposite walls.

As with all observation data, these measurements may reflect problems with instrument performance that is time-dependent. When an instrument had significant problems that resulted in grossly incorrect measurements, those values were removed from the animation database. However, if an instrument had only slight errors, those values were retained for completeness. Thus, the animation files may exhibit one or more sensor measurements that are a little off, resulting in the appearance of wobbly-looking motions and inter-story drift for some floors.
